ZX Rear Subframe - Old Chestnut

Post by Dave40 »

I know from studying the forum that this subject has been done to death but would like to share my own recent experience [V]
My ZX has had the usual rear end rattles & bumps associated with subframe mounts for a while. Yesterday I happened to be passing my local Citroen dealer so I popped in for a chat. The service guy was very friendly & helpfull, showed me the guilty parts & generally talked me through the possibilities.
It was suggested that the rear rear bushes could more likely be shot (based on my description of the problem) and that they were the cheaper to buy & replace [;)]
The two quotes worked out at 1. Rear rear only £120 parts & labour.
2. All mounts £405 parts & labour.
Parts prices were Fronts £45.88 + vat, rears £26.35 + vat EACH.
Labour was £50 PER HOUR + vat [:0]
At these sort of prices & without the likes of GSF & Haynes and of course this Forum, how many low value motors like my mine would end up at the 'recyclers' ? [:(]
Still fancy a VSX Xantia TD though! Anyone want a cheap ZX Reflex 1.9D with a wobbly rear end? [:D]

NB If it's a 3door series 1 I might be in the market.

The rear mounts are not 2 bad to do done the mounts front & rear on my boys zx Volcane 1,9 TD 5 door plus my rear mounts front & rear on a zx Volcane 1,9 td 3 door. To do them all about 6 hours my Volcane drives like a new car now

Dave40,
I could have been tempted with a swap if:
1) It was a TD
2) It wasn't white...

Phil,
If it was a TD and 'not white' I'd probably not be considering a VSX.
Does anyone know a Cit specialist in my area who could fit the subframe mounts at a sensible price?

Dave, its about 20 miles to Stalybridge for you, but I get my repairs done there at very reasonable prices. Give 'Darren' a ring on 0161 338 7700. :-D

Dave, have a word with Darren anyway, he's pretty genned up on ZX's as he had one himself for years. :-) Its well worth asking his advice. :-D
