Peugeot 207cc PETROL

Unread post by Pauline7 »

I bought a 207 1.6 turbo gt PETROL 09 plate a month ago and when half way home a fault came up as a depolution fault, obviously the guy i bought it from cleared the fault before he met me, anyway I have spoke to a few folk about it and they say because its PETROL it shouldn't come up with that. I've no idea an due to losing my job in may due to covid i can't afford to keep replacing parts I put a new middle exhaust on costing nearly £300 but it was blowing garage that fitted it cleared the depolution fault but it came back on. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum. Before throwing any more money at the car you will need to get her properly diagnosed (using the correct sort of equipment). Dealerships will charge to do this, but there are Forum members who have appropriate diagnostic equipment, and who are willing to help out other Forum members. The link at the end of this post will show you where these members are, but some have 'gone quiet', so may not respond, while others may well be on holiday, so please be patient.

When you find Forum members near you, you will need to send them a Private Message (PM) through their user name. The two nearest to you are RichardW and MGMike, both of whom are (to the best of my knowledge) still active. If you click on their user names (in the list) it will take you to their public profile, with the option to send them a PM.

You might be asked to post up the vehicle VIN (I am not asking you to post up the VIN myself). This is to allow Forum staff (please note that I am NOT Forum staff) to look up the details of the vehicle (equipment levels, etc.) when she rolled out of the factory (as, for example one factory may have one make of ECUs, while a different factory could have ECUs from a different supplier, so fault finding can be 'interesting'!). If you are asked, type in the VIN (without any spaces) in the thread where the request was placed. Security software will automatically obscure the VIN (like this; VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] ) to protect it. Do not post photographs of the VIN, as the software will not then recognise and protect it. The VIN can be found on the V5 logbook, and in a small clear point on the low nearside edge of the windscreen.

Probably best not to take any car related advice off these people again then :)

It just meant there is a fault with the engine management system which in turn means your car may be emitting higher emissions than normal. Many people (wrongly) assume that on petrol cars when this warning comes up there is a problem with the catalyst or oxygen sensors but in reality it could be pretty much anything connected to the enigne or its management system.
As said a diagnostic check had to be done first before anything else.

^^ My daughter's C3 (petrol) has also popped up the 'depolution fault' a few times, usually something quite trivial and goes away after a couple of days.

My wife's car has this also. To be honest, I've given up trying to resolve it.
The car passes the MOT emission's easily enough, the spark plugs are as they should be, no smoke from the exhaust, mpg is ok and it starts ok. I have a code reader, so can clear the fault before MOT and get on with life.

It might be worth considering taking a pragmatic approach to this. If you are using the same mechanic for any work & service you need done and should know the car, it might be worthwhile having a chat with him about living with the problem and he can clear the fault at each service/prior to MOT.

Colin.
