installed new DPF, do I need to tell the car via diagbox?

Unread post by nikeastwood »

my recently bought 207 hdi had a blocked dpf, there were a few other faults which lead to its demise, a non functioning air flow meter, a sooty air filter, a leaking turbo pipe from tubo to IC, and a general lack of recent servicing, combined with a trip of about 2 miles to and from a college everyday for the last 2 or so years on the previous owner.

I have replaced everything [filter, MAF, turbo pipe] and cleared a few fault codes, I installed a new dpf as well as a new diff. pressure sensor.

Do I need to make a setting in diagbox or PP to tell the car that the dpf is new? how? info would be welcomed.

Yes you do. Go into diagbox > injection system > pack repair > replacement parts > replacement diesel particulate filter. Its something along these lines.

With engine not running but ignition on, open DiagBox, click on ‘REPAIR’. Once it has gone through all systems:

Hightlight 'INJECTION/IGNITION' and click the green 'TICK'

Click ‘PACK REPARATION’

Click ‘AFTER-SALES PARTICULATE EMISSION FILTER REPAIR OPERATION’

When asked ‘IS THE VEHICLE FITTED WITH AN EXTERNAL DIESEL ADDITIVE ADDING ECU?’ Click 'X'

Click ‘REPLACEMENT OF THE PARTICLE EMMISSION FILTER AND WORK ON THE ADDITIVE ADDING CIRCUIT’

Click ‘FUEL ADDITIVE ZERO RESET’

Disconnect diagnostic

Turn ignition off

Open fuel flap

Wait 10 seconds

Close fuel flap

Switch ignition back on and hope for the ‘Low FAP’ warning not to appear.

thanks, my message of "risk of filter blocking" is now gone

no point in doing the fuel cap thing as I have an error code of "open circuit" on that, I think last owner has undone the plug underneath or the sensor is broke, I can operate the pump via the software though.

I have yet to go under and check the connections.

With what I gather. Every time you open the filler cap, it injects a set amount of eolys.

I was told the same regards the filler cap the reason given was that just topping up your tank rather than refuelling when empty would use up your eolys too quickly.

I believe that was the logic used for early Eolys dosing but that later cars (my X7 for instance) the magnet and sensor in the filler cap were deleted and instead monitoring of the fuel level for an increase was used to check if fuel has been put in. It might also be the case that the system can therefore "know" how much fuel was put in and vary the Eolys dosage accordingly.

The reason the fuel filler cap sensors is there is to help the engine ECU determine if fuel may have been added. It checks fuel at certain times by comparing fuel levels before and after filling to determine the dosing amount, so I think that that is a bit of a myth to be honest. The dosing is very finely measured.

on my own topic and slightly related, what do I need to find in diagbox to see when my other halfs pug 308 last did a natural regen? if ever.

we bought that last june, she does about 200 motorway miles a week in it without fault but now I have diagbox I would just like to have a look.

also perhaps check additive level

There is no reading for natural regeneration - as by its very nature is is passive or unassisted when the exhaust temperature reaches about 550 ?. It will only show assisted regeneration and the average
mileage since.

Also be aware the additive is not physically measured it is estimated based on amount injected since it was last topped up and the counter reset.

The information is in the Engine ECU

What got me is. When I changed my pouch, it was sucked dry. How long was it dry? I'll never know. I put in a bottle of Redex DPF and gave the engine a good thrashing in 4th gear at around 4,000rpm. Then, when I got back, I found the force regeneration in Diagbox and tried that also. It crept up the revs to about 3,750rpm for about 7 minutes, then ramped down again to tickover.

Not a good idea to force a regeneration unless absolutely necessary. It takes a toll on the system components and with the vehicle at standstill there is no ram air cooling.

In your case, I would speculate a previous owner has actually rest the additive counter without replacing the pouch - so in th is scenario you would not have got any warning. Remember the additive remaining in the reservoir or pouch is not physically measured, it is estimated. So if the system was reset without adding anything to remove a warning (possibly because they couldn't be bothered to fork out to top it up), then this could well be a reason.

Hello all,

I have a Peugeot 508 (2011 GT) and surfing though Google this forum looked like the most promising to my problem. My problem is that I have the "P1490" error and the "risk of particle filter clogging" message. I have 97% DPF full. My DPF was cleaned professionally but the service couldn't reset the DPF. Now I have a clean filter which is still 97% full and 6000km left. I tried the "dpf replacement" option in Diagbox but useless. I get the final message that successfully replaced but after I am reading again the parameters are the same. So what I am doing wrong? Why the replacement procedure finishes OK but then nothing resets?

Thank you very much,
David

1) Either they have not reset it correctly or
2) The filter is past service life despite being cleaned.
3) They have damaged the particle filter during the cleaning process (especially the bonding cement)
4) If the filter is full, be aware that anything over 70% full can prevent further regeneration (the filter is too full and regeneration can no longer work).
