C5 X7 interior lights

Post by rogerc5 »

Hello folks,
I noticed that the rear interior lights in my estate/ tourer were very yellow and dim, and decided to replace the bulbs.
This involves removing the whole light unit, not just the lens as stated in the handbook.
I found the lamp housings scorched which gave it the yellow tint.
Having cleaned both units and sprayed them silver I replaced the bulbs with LEDs which are better and generate less heat.
The light is still not marvellous due to the strange design, but an improvement.
As for getting the light unit back in situ; many curses.
I don't know if the scorching was dangerous- how long would the lights have to be on?, but just thought I'd pass it on.

It may be some water has got in from the roof aerial. This is a favourite place for water ingress.

You can get the lenses off in place - but need the patience of a Saint. I replaced all my interior bulbs with LEDs, pics here:

Something I did end up replacing some of them so as not to make it look too much like a pimpmobile.

Hi Marc
Mine look slightly different design, maybe because it's a tourer with glass roof. You can remove the lens but the bulb is obscured.
I bought a bag of cheapies from ebay and have them almost everywhere- the puddle lights are great!
However on the passenger side of the tourer the wiring is so short I had to get a different shape bulb from ABD which glows continuously.
I like the shape you have which may be more easily manipulated.
Thanks

Yes, I bought the 'wedges' as I had already tried the coloured 5W bulbs and these were either too dark or too dim - the LED wedges can be used which will fit in just about all the internal lights (except the ambient lighting LEDs of course for which there is no need). They run much cooler and they are available in a lot more colours. I did the boot and the puddle lights, the footwells and the interior map and reading lights too.

Just check from the seller the measurements as some are longer than others - as long as you measure the existing W5 bulb and the standard housing - you should have some room to play with for fitting these. Most sellers provide a measurement.
