C5 X7 Low oil warning

Unread post by mrhardware »

Had a strange thing happen today.
Carried out an oil change on my C5 X7 and after draining oil and replacing filter and filling oil to correct level the car is throwing up an F40A Fault code and low oil warning.
There was no problem with the car prior to the oil change. Ran live data and it reports that the oil level sensor is out of range but he oil temp is reading ok.
Could this be the temp/level and pressure sensor has failed ?.

Ignore it - this is a known fault. It's the Oil level / Pressure Sensor that has failed to take a reading. It can do this at certain temperatures, but once the car has been left for at least 30 minutes with the ignition off , the next time the ignition is switched on, it should take a reading and self-clear.

The fault occurs from an oil level measurement when the engine coolant temperature is higher than 40°C. The oil level is measured up to a certain engine coolant temperature. Fault code F40A is recorded if the oil level has not been measured, as the temperature of the engine coolant was higher than the set threshold.

Fault code F40A will be cleared from the list of faults in the built-in systems interface when the oil level is measured correctly by the sensor.

Thanks Marc i will leave it over night and see what happens.

Yes, I think it needs time to settle. So long as there are not other faults with the F40A, it should be fine the next time you start the car.

Citroen just say to always check the oil level manually with the dipstick to make sure the oil level is correct if unsure - but the fault should go when it successfully takes a reading next time.

Thanks again for info.
Got up this morning and warning still there. Drove about a mile and i noticed the service light had gone out.
Checked for faults and no faults found. Next time i turned on ignition dash reported oil level correct :yeah:
