repair cost

Hi all,
Got a major oil leak dropped the van into a local garage and was told the leak is coming from Camshaft housing/carrier, was quotes £600-£700 for it to be fixed is this a fair price ?

'08 Dispatch 1.6 HDi
Any input would be greatly recieved

It's very likely the labour costs - but depends on exactly what it is - I would still get a quote from your dealer too - as they may know exactly what it is and the cost upfront - which may save on a lot of 'investigative labour charges'.

Hi GiveMeABreak,
Many thanks for the advice the mechanic is saying the leak is coming from "the cam box"? which makes me think, does he mean the bearing ladder? i have since heard reports he has bad rep for being expensive and even not doing the repairs properly i have a few more mechanics to try recomended by pals of mine.
