Speedometer dies while I'm driving (random)

Unread post by xciter79 »

Hi,

This is my 1st post here. Sorry for my bad English. :)

I have issue with my Peugeot 206 1.4 (2002). From time to time my speedometer dies while driving. First I hear two beeps, airbag icon flashes and all meter dies except for gasoline. If I turn engline off while the speedometer is not working then I can't turn it on again - I hear starter but engine won't turn on for about next 5-10 minutes. Then everything returns to normal. This happens occasionaly, sometimes it works perfectly for months and then starts making problems day after day and then stops... I have no idea what's wrong.

I attached photo while I'm driving and my meters are off. I tried to attach video but I get an error.

If you can give me some advice I will be grateful. :)

Thanks!

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum. Your English is a lot better than my Serbian (I have none!).

While I cannot offer any direct advice I would suggest you just wait a while. Somebody with a lot more Peugeot knowledge will see this thread and join in, but I don't know when. If I were to make a guess (but this is only a guess) I would suggest the engine bay fusebox could be a good starting place to look.

This appears to be a BSI (the fuse box in the glove box) failure. Both the CAN and VAN1 buses seem to be affected and the only common point for the CAN and VAN1 BUSES is the BSI.
The airbag system is on the VAN1 BUS.
There is a loss of CAN BUS information from the ABS (speed) and engine (RPM and temperature). However the ABS and engine lights are NOT coming on!?
Do the ABS and engine lights come on when you first switch the ignition on?
Check fuse F14 in the glove box for any problems, it's the only (sort of) common point for power. It supplies power directly to the airbag system and power to the BSM (fuse box in the engine bay). It's just something to check. Again, the ABS and ENGINE light should come on if there is a power problem but it seems they are not.
It's possible there is a failure of a common power supply for the dials in the instrument cluster but that doesn't explain the air bag light coming on.
