Citroen C5 (X7) Lane Departure Warning System (AFIL) Retrofit

Post by helltourist »

Hi,

I would like to retrofit the Lane Departure Warning System as I was able to get most of the parts needed cheap enough.
VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
  1. The parts diagrams shows nothing about connections, so where should I connect the AFIL harness plug (yellow, 3 pin) and what should I connect to the AFIL ECU's two longer sockets (18 pin & 12 pin)?
  2. How should I connect the two vibrating units to the seat control ECU? As there is limited space to check these.
  3. Swapping the switch block with the PDC/ESP/AFIL buttons is plug and play or it needs some additional wiring?
Is there a longer part number for this grey switch block (6490T7)? Because I can't find anywhere to buy it in grey.
What else would I need besides the following parts?

Under the bonnet:
  • Air deflector (with holes for the sensors) - 7013GJ
    • 6x Counterplate (for the sensors) - 6590E0
    • 6x CBLX Screw (⌀4,5-30) - 6924E9
  • AFIL ECU - 6590AQ
    • Mounting Bracket (for the ECU) - 6590CT
    • 2x Nut with base (M6x100) - 6935A6
  • AFIL Harness - 6577QC
  • 6x AFIL Sensors (numbered from 1 to 6) - 6590W1
Inside the car:
  • 2x Vibrating Unit (attached under the seat) - 8906AH
  • Switch Block (with lateral trajectory monitoring button) - 6490T7 (grey with ESP & PDC & AFIL) (6490T6 for the black)

You'll probably also need the Driver's Belt and Seat Harness in addition to the AFIL ECU which you've missed off the list, as well as configuring the option - but I can't say if there won't be something else you find is missing or needed half way through!

I really can't think why you would want to go to the expense of retro-fitting this - you can just get a modern dash cam which has this feature on some models, but I know some purists like to go OEM - good luck with this.

One thing I think you'll find is that the leather seats have the leather bonded on with glue - so this could mean a very difficult job to access.

I have all the other available options for the car, except the AFIL System and I always wanted to do it.
I already have a dash cam in a custom 3D printed rain detection sensor cover and I really like it.

I can do the configuration, but how would these cables connect together?
The supplementary harness with the sensors has a 3 pin connector and the AFIL ECU has two larger sockets.
There should be another harness that connects to the AFIL ECU, but I can't find it on the diagrams and what should I plug to the other socket?

The other problem is that I don't have the mentioned belt and seat harness (which would be 6505Z3 if I'm correct) as the other parts are from a car that has different seats.
I don't want to take the seat apart, so how difficult would it be to wire the two vibrating units directly to the seat control ECU? Is there any wiring diagram for this?

Can I just swap the switch block with the buttons on the dashboard or it needs some additional wiring?
I can't find anywhere to buy the switch block in grey (6490T7) and I only have it in black, so is there a longer part number for it?

Hi there!
Looking for two 8906AH (or 8925H1) vibro-motors myself, just came across your post! I’m actually finishing the same AFIL retrofit in my DS5 (you may want to check it out here: viewtopic.php?t=74239).

There may be differences between C5 (X7) and DS5’s AFIL systems, though. AFAIK, C6 used front parking sensors to monitor the lines on the road (and warn if those were unintentionally crossed), but DS5 uses the front camera for that purpose. How ’bout C5 (X7) in that regard? Those who have it from factory use front sensors or camera to monitor the car’s position between the lines on the road?

Also, I know C4 (B7) with factory AFIL warns the driver for unintended line crossing by brief impulse on the driver’s seatbelt. Does it use vibro-motors under the seat as well?
Cause you might use just said vibro-motors for that purpose, without any messing around with the seatbelt Ecu?

Anyway, on Drive2.ru forum you might find some useful info or actually someone who’s done it. That’s where I found a lots of info (and a few guides) on how to retrofit that system in DS5 (including wiring diagrams)…

The C6, C5 MK II and C5 X7 all have dedicated AFIL sensors under the front of the vehicle. They are not ultrasonic sensors and are nothing to do with the parking assistance system. The AFIL STL sensors on these vehicles use 6 Infra Red transmitter / receivers.

The early DS5 vehicles use the camera and and LDWS ECU for this function.

Then for C5 X7 it works similar to this?
