C5 lds tank confusion

Post by Dunkah »

Hi all,
Recently purchased a brand new lds tank for my 2008 c5 to replace a ruptured one.
I’ve previously replaced it for a second hand one but unfortunately it was either already ruptured or has ruptured as soon as I’d replaced it, I’m trying to get to the bottom of a suspension problem and still going through all the relevant parts.
Anyways… back to my query….
The new tank I purchased is listed as the correct year etc but it has a small difference…. On the top of the tank on the right hand side the old tank has a stub that is closed off ( pictures included, it’s circled in red) but the new tank has an outlet ( or inlet) in the same place that is open to the tank,
So do I put a pipe on it and block it like the original tank, or perhaps use it as a safety feature as the tank obviously won’t rupture if someone drops it back onto its wheels incorrectly, but then the tank won’t hold any pressure, not sure if that’ll be a good or bad thing…..
Any opinions would be greatly received
Many thanks

Build dates (not registration date) up to 15th October 2009 had the initial version of the tank with the small protrusion sticking out.
From build date 16th October 2009 they changed the LDS tank which had a venting filter inside the outlet and then finally, they changed it again:-
From build date 15th February 2010 the tank was reverted back to the original replacement for the original tank without the filter!

So ignore it essentially.

Thanks for that Marc, much appreciated.
So it doesn’t really matter if it’s open or closed then?

For some reason they changed their mind or found it was worse so reverted! Leave it as is, just make sure you only check the level on the lowest suspension setting. There are posts on the forum where I have the picture to show the correct level if you need it, just have a search. :-D

Yeah I’ve seen those diagrams, been through just about every post there is regarding x7 suspension. 🤣
Thanks again
