Change language RT3

This is the RT3 unit and was made by Magneti Marelli
The RT3 was available in a few different hardware versions, the later ones supporting MP3 playback. These units had an optical connection to the Display Screen.

If the CD unit is not reading CDs then you won't be able to change the language as this requires the System on CD as you have found out.

Maybe you need to consider carefully cleaning the lens?

I will give it a try, but I’m wondering whether the cd option should be available in source menu anyway or not

Whenever the Firmware CD is entered it will attempt to read it, but if you go into the system setup on the RT3 and choose to change the language, it will ask you to insert the system firmware CD. But again, if it cannot read the CD because of a dirty or faulty lens, then it won't make any difference.

But do you know whether the cd mode should be available in source in first place? Is it possible that it is inactive for some reason?

No it cannot be inactive by default as it is the boot media and configured as the 'master' boot device with the internal HDD as the slave. This is so that in the event of HDD failure it will always look to boot from the firmware CD if present int he slot first. The only way to prevent this happening is if the boot sequence order is changed, but as there isn't a jumper setting for this (it should be 'cable select' only) so I can't see how.

As the navigation CD has to be present for the Navigation to work, can you confirm that you are able to configure a journey and that the navigation is working? If not, then the same issue will apply - the CD is faulty or the lens is dirty.

The Audio Source on PSA vehicles is also selectable from a press in on the end of the right supplementary stalk. This would switch between Radio or CD or CD Changer IIRC.

Yes, there must be a problem with cd drive as I cannot change source to cd, even if I insert cd the source remains on radio mode.

This makes me think that cd drive is faulty

As I said - or the drive is having difficulty reading any data - you may want to try and use one of those lens cleaner CDs. Does it make any noise as if trying to read / spin when you insert a CD? If you can here the CD spinning, then the lens may just need gentle cleaning.

Failing that it may need a repair. have a look here - the Spanish one historically has fixed the RT3s with this issue:

I’ve decided to pull radio out and inspect cd drive. Will I have to reactivate the thing using obd interface?

No, the units are VIN coded to your vehicle, there is therefore no code to be entered, it will check with the BSI when reconnected (speaking from a PSA point of view, but may be different on a Lancia.

@milence986: Check your Private Messages, but be aware that this firmware version you have will need to be updated to the version on the ISO Cd I have provided. So you will need to update it first, most likely before it will allow you to change the language!
