C5 X7 - identity crisis!

Post by Sebastian Tombs »

Hi everyone,

I picked up my new C5 X7 Tourer on Friday and it's blown me away with how good it is. My wife and I drove it 400km down to her parent's place and it was so smooth and comfortable.

There is, however a little curiosity with the stereo. It has the Becker NG4 stereo - aka Navidrive 3D, and this is what greets me when I start the car:
IMG_4205.jpg
It also came up as "Peugeot" in the bluetooth list when I connected my phone to it.

Can I change that easily with a secret menu or a firmware update?

Hi - I've moved your post to the Telematics Forum.

I think I know what has happened here. There are 2 possibilities I can think of:

1) Your vehicle never had this system originally and a previous owner has replaced the original Head Unit with the NG4 system which was from a Peugeot.
2) You did have the NG4 originally, but something happened to it and it was replaced with a unit from a Peugeot.

In either of the scenarios above, whoever replaced it did not know how to configure the unit properly for your vehicle using the diagnostic equipment (Diagbox).

If you pop your VIN up for me (automasked on post submission), I will check your vehicle's original factory equipment to see if you did have the unit originally.

In order to change the logo back to Citroen, it needs reconfiguring using Diagbox to change a parameter in the ECU. The unit you have has still retained some of the programming from the previous vehicle. This being the case, there may be other settings that are incorrect for your vehicle. A firmware update won't be able to correct this (please advise which firmware you are on by obtaining this from the setup menu). It must be configured using Diagbox (often referred to as a Lexia kit).

Thanks for moving to the right place and for the info.
In the thread I started before I bought the car viewtopic.php?p=690572#p690572 I posted the vin and it did indeed originally have the NG4, so I guess it broke and was replaced.
The firmware version is ng4_D_N32b_N32.05

Ahh, this is interesting. I may have the original unit, as they been known to spontaneously change over from Citroën to Peugeot

It seems this is a bug of some kind.

This should not be the case as on this system it is set and won't get changed by any firmware update. Your firmware is old, and I can provide you with the latest and last version of you want - let me know. But to change this back to Citroen you will need Diagbox.

Thanks. A copy of the latest firmware would be great.

I’ll look into getting a Lexia and Diagbox. Or just take it to the dealer and see if they will do it.

Actually with this system (they are all slightly different) If I remember correctly, the logo is determined from the firmware itself - so it is likely somebody may have previously updated the firmware and / or maps from a Peugeot firmware file....

Anyway, I'm sending you a PM for the firmware.

Hi All, very new to this site/forum and truly sorry if I don't follow protocol.
I have a late 2009 C5 Tourer Exclusive 3.0 HDI which has been an excellent workhorse for many years but as with the above (Identity crisis) since the last MOT my welcome screen no longer reads Citroen but Displays the Peugeot logo and I have lost the USB port function and the DVD does not play. Any insight or suggestions would most certainly be welcome.
Many Thanks

I suspect you have replaced the head unit with a second hand one....?

If so the Head unit has retained some settings from the previous Peugeot vehicle it came from with different options to your own vehicle. That's the only way this can happen, unless somebody has been reconfiguring the Head Unit incorrectly.

Following on from Givemeabreak's comment that I may have exchanged the head unit, I can categorically state that is not the case, however not to be deterred by technology I have acquired a notebook computer with Diagbox installed and the necessary cables to connect to the OBD socket. In a baptism of fire I have found that regarding the logo change the first letter of the VIN code had become a question mark instead of a V, this successfully returned the logo to Citroen however I have still been unable to recover the functions of the DVD player or the USB port. There is however power at the USB port and will charge a phone etc, so all fuses are good. If there are any learned fellows out there with in-depth knowledge on the various configuration settings necessary for the correct functioning of these NG4 double din head units I would appreciate a response. (it's my belief that the MOT station/service garage may have somehow interfered with settings, WHY?)
Kindest regards to all in the community & Bonne chance mes amis.

As said, it's been reconfigured by somebody - it's the only way this can happen. Settings have been changed that are leading to the loss of functionality. I'd be pretty annoyed to be honest as they had no business doing anything like this - and I'd be demanding some reparation to get it fixed.

However I am willing to assist on the basis you are able to provide screenshots of the BSI settings (each page in order) and post these up as images.
I will check your current configuration against your VIN (Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff), and can advise on any changes that need making.

To do this, run a Global Test, then on completion, near the top will be the BSI ECU listed. Select this to get to the configuration menu, then select manual configuration and you should see all the settings. Please don't change anything at this stage as what may appear to the uninitiated as obvious faults or incorrect settings, are in most cases default values that must not be changed, given that the telematics units like the NG4 require specific settings that may seem incorrect.

Once I have these, I can advise you on any irregularities based on your vehicle factory-fitted options.

To upload images, use the FULL EDITOR & PREVIEW button to reply, then select the ATTACHMENTS tab at the bottom, to browse the images from your PC. You can then place these in your post as needed.

I strongly suggest you name each screenshot as a, b, c, d etc., so that you know later which order to place them to save me faffing about with continuity of the settings.
