iCarsoft Fr V 2.0

Post by ds21h »

Hi does anyone have any experience of the iCarsoft Fr V2.0 specifically for Citroen and Peugeot.

I am looking for a diagnostic tool for my 2013 C5 and 2009 C6 to do Electrionic Parking brake, gearbox fluid levls etc.

Thanks
Mark

I have no idea on that product but I can tell you that I bought a 32-bit Windows 7 laptop for £50 and bought the Lexia/Diagbox connector and software from Easydiagnostics and it is great.

It takes ages to install first time but I just set it away and used the kit for the first time later in the day.

I don’t think you can beat the manufacturer software.

I have a 2006 C6 and it did everything the dealer does except update the software on the car— for obvious reasons it can’t phone to Citroen.

Hi thanks for the reply, yes the Lexia would be the better option but I don't have the 32 bit laptop and trying to find a decent one here in France is proving to be an issue.

Ah, that’s a shame. There were loads on eBay UK that I just waited for the auction to end and took a punt on and got lucky.

Mine isn’t particularly decent but is a Sony which I thought was well made. The battery is useless but I can replace that in time if I need to take a drive for live data.

It could be that a 2009 C6 can be read by a 64-bit computer. I have no clue if it can or not but you could ask Jim at Easy Diagnostics and he’d know for sure. You can certainly install Diagbox on a 64-but computer because they sent me the software and instructions.

I bought the iCarsoft for my Benz. If you do get one make sure it does more than just the Citroen/Peugeot I lost £40 selling mine when i got rid of my Benz as it only worked on Mercedes.

You can't use the Lexia component of the software with a native 64 Bit OS - end of. The software was written in 16 bit code. Diagbox will work perfectly with the C5 and probably with the C6 for 2009.

The iCarsoft FRV2 is for French cars and is not very good by all accounts. Apart from reading Quote "most systems", it can only perform the specific maintenance functions listed, so may not be able to depressurise the suspension, or have the variety of live testing parameters that Diagbox can provide. So what it can actually do will be very hit and miss.

I’ve often wondered if the later Diagbox can do everything that the earlier Lexia could. Can it? Why are both provided?

Hi James

It was the evolution of the software and the vehicles and systems. Because the earlier software (Lexia and PP2000 for Peugeot) was written a long time ago, it couldn't be run with the advent of later 64 bit operating systems which the later versions on Windows now had available to support the later hardware in the computers themselves.

So a new more modern interface was designed and they stopped updating the older Lexia software at some point and incorporated it into Diagbox. It was encapsulated, so that when launching Diagbox, the system would detect the vehicle that was being diagnosed and launch the most appropriate software for the year.

So as a guide any vehicle 2007 and earlier will likely launch either Lexia for Citroen or PP2000 for Peugeot. If your vehicle is 2008 or later, it will launch Diagbox natively.

As the vehicle ranges, equipment, options and ECUs were advancing, they needed better software and that meant supporting newer operating systems.

Thanks for the explanation. I’ve only used my new kit the once on my 2006 C6 so far. I think it loads up Diagbox and Lexia to read the car— I could use both. Lexia was obviously an older design. I preferred Diagbox.

I’ll keep fumbling about. Managed to overflow the reservoir successfully on its first outing!

You should be fine - just remember there's no 'undo' function on these systems, so it may help if you have a squiz at some guidance notes I made for using Lexia / Diagbox:
