Warning beeps

Unread post by John o »

Hi all, I've not long been a member of this forum and have recently bought a citroen c5 saloon 160 nav, it's my first citroen and is very comfortable and economical and so far I'm impressed but sometimes when I start the car I get a lot of short beeps and sometimes a long continuous beep but no warnings on the dashboard, does anyone here know what it is?
Thank in advance John

Hi John

Can you please advise which C5 you have - what year is it or better still the VIN so I can see what equipment you have on it before advising as there are significant variations in the models and their equipment and displays.

Ok, so you have a conventionally sprung C5 without hydractive suspension, with MyWay navigation system.

It would be useful to keep you eye on both the dashboard instrument panel LCD for any messages and also on the large colour screen. You may have to do this separately each time you start the car to make sure you don't miss any messages.

This sound can indicate some mis-configuration of vehicle equipment - like if the navigation Telematics System Head unit has been replaced and not coded correctly by a previous owner.

Other than this and without any visual indication of the what is causing the beeps, then a diagnostic will need to be done to see what the issue is.

Its not something simple like seat belt not fastened if you have something heavy on the back/front seat ?
The warning would be on the panel below the rear view mirror and not on the dashboard, same i think goes for air bag warning ??

The headlamp leveller system doesn't work and the window and mirror control panel on the driver door doesn't adjust the mirrors so that's probably what the beeps are, thank you for the advice 👍

Colin
The seat belt warning seems ok, the beeps come on when the ignition is switched on but just for a few seconds

Have you tried the BSI reset, i should know where the link is but cannot find it :( but its worth trying to start with in case someone before you has disconnected the battery and not followed procedure, at least you would know you were starting from a clean slate

The window and mirror switch might just be filled with rubbish, they're easy enough to strip and clean, mine had been left with the window down for a long time before I bought it but it cleaned up ok.

Fingers crossed it has done the trick, and it is a very cheap fix
