Should I buy the C5 1.6HDI?

Post by Theflyingpostman »

Previous I have owned Xantia 2.0HDI Forte, C5 2.2HDI hatchback it was thirsty and high road tax and I swap for 2.0HDI 110 hatchbacks 2003 then I got fed up with the look, so I went bought 2.0HDI 136 C5 VTR+ 2006 estate, now three and a half years, I was dream of buy the latest C5 hydro pneumatic suspension estate.

Are the Mk3 C5 better than the C5 Mk2 on reliability?

Shall I buy the 1.6HDI? There is common of issue with injectors seal, I want to confirm if it is actually the 1.6HDI or 2.0HDI or 2.2HDI?

I can remember the automatic on my Mk1 C5 2.2HDI 136 it was a terrible, not responsive quickly, is the Mk2 or Mk3 a better automatic?

Thanks if reply my question.

Sometimes people do not have the information requested. I, for example, have no experience of the C5 1.6 HDi, but I have read that some of the 1.6 engines (I cannot recall the specific one) do have a few issues that can cause major problems (such as a recessed sump plug (which means the last dregs in the sump don't get removed when the oil is changed), and a filter in the oil feed to the turbo getting blocked, starving the turbo of oil and causing it to fail). I also do not have any experience of the automatic gearboxes.

I do know that the X7 does have a problem with the steering racks, in that they corrode around the pinion. One member went through several steering racks (three, I think) before he got rid of the car.

Hi
If you are looking at the estate version with an auto box then regardless of which type of suspension then i would avoid the 1.6 C5 X7 (mk3)
Each engine will have its issues, the 1.6 is okay if service has been done regularly but that applies to all engines in the range.
I think you are looking for an answer that no one here or elsewhere will be able to give you without you requesting advice for a specific vehicle.

Hope that helps

isn't the 1.6Hdi 'auto', a semi-auto (ESG), had one in two c4's (coupe & B7) 'orrible box, very jerky as low speeds and when pully away if you had not fully stopped.
had my C5 now for 45,000 miles, full set of discs & pads, steering rack (hopefully steering rack was sorted for good only time will tell) so reliability ain't bad.

You’re going to get even less help if you act like that.

It’s a volunteer-run forum, the admins of which do a very good job, in their own time, free-of-charge. The rest of us are just “readers and posters” who aren’t here 24/7 because we have normal jobs and lives too.
