buying a 1.6 308, what should I look out for?

Unread post by fotobright »

Hi

I currenty drive a 2009 207 SW. Need to upgrade to a ULEZ eURO 6 diesel and was thinking about a 2015/2016 308 1.6 SW.

I just wondered what the common issues with 2015 308's and what I should as the seller/dealer.

Thanks

Calum

ps the car i'm looking at online has done 104,000 and has just past its MOT with the advisors

For an early blue HDi, you need to make sure it has had a new AdBlue tank - or get a grand knocked off the price, as they are a ticking time bomb, and £££ to replace!! Cheap diesels are a bit of a minefield; you only need E4 for a petrol car for ULEZ, I think if you not doing mega miles, I would look for one of those.

Strut top bearings are common failures, and not too expensive to replace.

Just bought a 308 SW Allure. its really a very nice car to drive. The ride reminds me of the C5, which is a good thing. Service history up to 80k :)

What is an AdBlue tank?
You'll find if you have a 2013 diesel or later, it may have the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system fitted in addition to a Diesel Particulate filter.

There are 3 stages:

1) The Catalytic converter takes the unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide and converts these to water and carbon dioxide
2) Then the SCR system through the use of Adblue injected into the Cat transforms the Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) into water and Nitrogen.
3) Lastly, the Diesel Particulate Filter then traps over 99% of the particulate matter that is also produced by diesel engines and when the filter becomes blocked, it regenerates either passively if the exhaust is already hot enough (550 °C) or via assisted regeneration using Eolys that is stored in a separate tank and injected into the fuel system to reduce the temperature required for regeneration of the particle filter from 550 °C to about 450 °C.

After all that, I bet you're going to tell me you bought a petrol! :-D
