Gear oil

Yesterday replaced gear oil after 30 kKm (2 years). The used is really black. Is it normal, contamination or any gear demage?[:)]

Did the oil have a distinct "burnt" smell ?
If replaced timely, it should still have the wellknown red ATF colour. Could be the first oil change on this car is the cause.

Thank You for reply.
It is the second time, i replaced the oil. First time it was black too. Hope ,the previous owner renewed timely.
Unfortunately the used oil was thrown, today-no "burnt" smell-don't know wether enough good indication (if I understand correct-half oil qty replaced each time).[:)]

Additionally: is there any oil filter in the gear?
