What happened to http://www.vel-satis.org/

Post by kiwibruce »

Hi,

I am a kiwi living in France. I am intending to buy a VelSatis and have been Google-translating the French VelSatis Forum; https://www.forumvelsatis.fr/phpBB3/index.php

I have come across numerous references to http://www.vel-satis.org/ which is/was an English site dedicated to these cars.

Does anyone know if the content of that site is still available anywhere?

Thanks
Bruce

Hi Bruce, Unfortunately some of these specialist Forums can be a little too specialist as owners and vehicle numbers decline and their hosting and maintenance costs become uneconomical to maintain. This often results in the sites getting taken down. If you are lucky the owner may have backed up their Forum database just in case, but that's where it also may stay unfortunately.

I suggest you try and contact some of the members of your current site and see if any of them know anything.

As far as the French Car Forum goes, most of our Forum members and expertise are on PSA vehicles these days, but best of luck.

I checked on the web archive (waybackmachine) http://web.archive.org/web/201910010000 ... satis.org/ and the last post on that forum is:
Sad news…

Happy new year to all Vel Satis owners and friends of the site. Thank you all for your interest over the years. Sadly, because we founders haven’t owned a Vel Satis for many years and don’t have the time to continue maintaining and occasionally upgrading the site, it will be closed on January 31st. If someone comes forwards with basic hosting, domain and WordPress experience, we will gladly consider transferring the site to them, to keep it going. In the meantime, we suggest you print or save as PDFs all posts, pages and other information you wish to keep for future reference.

Best wishes,

Oliver, David & Luke
If you manage to contact the site owner, we may consider hosting a static backup of that site, with ongoing discussions on this forum.
