Is this bad...

I've been cleaning the plastic trim in the 807 as the previous owner left it in a grim state..

When Poppin off the rear right trim (where the rear right seatbelt retracts) I came across this clipped wiring ... Is it something I need to be concerned about? And secondly any one have any idea what was part of this wiring loom?

There is also a rouge red wire that's been snipped too..

Any advice and help appreciated.

Possibly the remains of towbar electrics by the looks of it..

Definitely needs tidying up as it has a potential to cause short circuits and odd behaviours...

Going by the colours and the number of wires it looks like snipped towbar wiring. I would hunt around the other side of the car to find out if there are any more.

I would try to find out how all the snipped wires are joined to the harness. - have a look under the bits of tape. The bare ends could be the least of your worries if there are any horrors under the tape. Whatever, you would be wise to seal off all wires individually to avoid any chances of shorts.

All this assumes you don't have any unsolved problems in the first place or there are not any other signs of damage in other areas you can see.

I think so.. the car has been really unloved but it's a lovely car for my tribe.

I spent 4 hours deep cleaning the inside today and I think I have a bit of work to to do the old girl to get her shipshape.

That's really good advice.. will look to do that this weekend. I think I have my work cut out!

If you might even vaguely require a tow bar in the future, consider tidying up the wires and finishing them with a set of terminal blocks instead of sealing them up.

Funnily enough the other half went ooh when I told her the car had a tow bar... Then she muttered something about a caravan..

If I was to use a terminal block would it need to be an auto rated terminal block or could I just use a standard terminal block from somewhere like B and Q.

(I don't know enough about car electronics to know!)

OK. You still have to check there are no horrors lurking under the insulating tape. It scares the living daylights out of me to see what some people think is adequate! Terminal strips like the ones in hardware shops with screw terminals are perfectly fine. Use a small amount of Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) to smear the contacts and the screws in the terminals if future corrosion worries you. This type of terminal block is far superior to the push or lever type of terminal available. Once fitted, you would have the correct colour coded cables available for future use. When choosing a terminal block remember that two thicknesses of wire need to go in the hole if you want both screw terminals to secure the wires. Soldering joints and insulating is the best method, however.
