What would you conclude having viewed the attached photos?
The car is a 1.4i 2007 which my daughter has just got hold of at the right money, but we have no idea of it's history.
I have not jumped to the obvious- the lack of mayo. on the rockers I find odd.
The clues so far:
Attached photos.
The thermostat has been jammed open, I suspect deliberately.
The car was bought with 1/2 a tank of petrol. Normally found on a none runner.

hi mayo could been head gasket failure were water has leaked as thermostat I get a new one and see what happens but that's me good luck with it

Those old TU engines can get like that if they don’t get “used”, running cool, that sort of thing.
Get a competent and honest garage to give it a head gasket and pressure test.
Or, just replace the thermostat, clean it all up, correct oil change, then start using it keeping an eye on the coolant.

Yep, seen way worse TU engines than that with no head gasket issues.
