The warning you are describing is probably telling you that the DPF filter is getting blocked and the car is unable to regenerate under current conditions. In order for the DPF to undertake a regeneration cycle to burn all the soot off, the exhaust gasses needs to reach a certain temperature (550 ?). The additive fluid injected into the diesel tank reduces the temperature needed down to 450 ?. But if you don't drive the car long enough for the engine to warm up properly and for enough time for the regeneration conditions to be met and complete the cycle, then the filter will become blocked up and you will get the warning.
You need to take the car for a reasonable drive at least 25 minutes or so out of stop and start traffic and at 40 MPH or more where possible to allow regeneration to complete.
Short trips of a few miles and town traffic is going to be the issue, so a good run every week or 2 is needed on these vehicles.
