407 2.0 HDI 2009 BSI Clone

Hi,

I have a BSI fault and I have located a replacement BSI with the exact same BOOT, HARD and Variant/Version numbers.

I have a 2.0 407 HDi and this replacement is from a Citroen C5 1.6 HDi.

As all software/firmware and unit model numbers are the same, is it only the eeprom chip that needs swapped?

Exchanging BSIs, from what I know, is quite finicky. The complete matching of the numbers should give a reasonable reassurance that they're ALMOST the same. As you said, you absolutely have to swap the eeprom chip, otherwise no starting of the car. Sure enough, you'll have to code all the different options in the flash as to match your old ones, since the donor car is almost certainly equipped differently. You should definitely do a "backup" of your options reading the BSI you have now via OBD to be able to set the new one as it should. Guess you already checked the matching of all the other numbers on the label and through diagbox?

I am paying someone to do the clone and I am assuming they will copy the flash and the eeprom chip.

The number on the labels match exactly. I do not have diagbox.

Is it a Siemens BSI? Such as E02-00 or E01-00? If so, you're not at luck... Most of them (albeit almost only the older ones, so yours may not be the case) have a NEC microprocessor inside that is hardwarewise read protected. There's absolutely no way (without bringing up extremely advanced methods) of reading that processor to copy the content of the flash memory (integrated in the MCU). The only viable way would be to swap the processors physically, it is doable but it's quite advanced soldering, and those NECs dont like heat at all. If I were you, I'd open up the old BSI to check which processor has inside.
If no swap is possible, I'd try and find someone in your area with diagbox to configure correctly the new bsi. Obviously, you should swap the EEPROM chip before, or reprogram the new one with your PIN and VIN or virginize it.
Again, if your BSI is another one, you may be able to read the flash memory and reprogram the new one on the bench.

It would be my preference to get the current BSI read with Diagbox to get an accurate test result. But is there someone with Diagbox in Northern Ireland?
A Snap On reader diagnosed a BSI fault.

Oh well so you should be able to read flash and eeprom with the right tools. I'd read the eeprom with an external programmer by desoldering the chip though, I think it's more stable. I think you might try, If I were you, I'd be optimistic of it working ok.

I want to verify the wiring from the plug exiting the BSI to the brake lights is intact by applying twelve volts and turning on the brake lights with pedal pressed.
The pins are 14 and 15 for the left and right.
What is the best way for me to get twelve volts to those pins?

Now you're talking! What is the actual fault with your car? I think there's a list of Diagbox users in the forum. I have it (even though I'm a newbie), but I'm quiiiite distant, since I live in Italy

No brake lights. Bulbs are ok, brake switch replaced, which leaves the BSI or broken wiring and a code reader diagnosed BSI fault.
I have opened the BSI and can see no obvious scorch marks, burnt chips etc etc. but I should really eliminate wiring.

Uhm... as you can see, the board automatically obfuscates the VIN, it can be read only by staff members, of which I'm not part of, since I joined yesterday
