Update...
new Dipstick ordered < £20.....
tried to get sump off, stuck like, you know what to what!
fingers crossed the sump filter will hold back the broken bit, not sure how it happened, refilled with correct amount of oil.

Seen this loads of times including my own X7 about 3 years ago.
Wouldn’t even contemplate taking the sump off to retrieve it.

thanks for making me not feel special and unique! Yes, according to the parts guys in my local Citroen Dealers, he has had to order a few, still not sure how, but as the peice is still in one piece, about 3" long (75mm to the youngsters), it isn't going to go far, probably just sit on the bottom of the sump.....I hope [-o<

Yes, they stopped bothering to retrieve these as so many failed - it wasted too much time - the filter will stop it being sucked up though.

Cheers Marc I thought as much, it is either sitting on the bottom of the sump or floating around getting bashed by the big end bearings. [-o<
