Citroen C4 1.6HDI 2013 Engine Fusebox Unit

Unread post by tony42 »

Had an issue pop up on my dashboard. Drivers headlight not working. Checked bulb and checked fusebox. To cut a long story short water managed to get into the engine fusebox unit because the lid was not fully on. Cleaning up the fuse holders resolved the issue.

Skipping ahead, 6 weeks later I am getting an electrical circuit fault warning now and the service light remains on. I left it in for new brake pads/discs and asked the garage to investigate. Left headlight was not working and they cleaned the fuse holder and got it working but couldn't clear the electrical circuit repair fault.

I suspect the brain of the fusebox is damaged and it now shows a fault. The problem is the cost for replacement of this unit in this model is €400 and it has to be added to the ECU by a main dealer. Has anybody been able to get a repair done on these units? I am guessing if pulled apart there will be corrosion on a circuit?

Is it possible to get cheaper replacements from aliexpress etc? I found one for €130 but need to ensure it is the right module for my VIN.
A secondhand unit I suppose is an option but getting it from the UK is a PITA now because of Brexit. That route is also fraught with concerns on whether it will resolve the problem.

These fuseboxes cannot be repaired so it is either a 2nd unit or new. I purchased a new unit for my C5 from France for less than half the stealers price. The number is printed on the fusebox and search the internet.

I'll check what number i had and the replacement no. Here are the part no's for my C5 original to car 9675877980 updated replacement 9807028580.

Hope this helps.

Kenny

Thanks KennyW if you manage to find the place you got the unit from that would be great? Our MOT which is called NCT might end up giving me a fail if I don't sort it but because of covid my current cert has been extended until September so have time to search :)
On the earlier C4's you could just change out the fusebox but sadly with the later model it has to go to a dealer to be programmed.

Okay, these numbers may not be useful but anybody with 1.6hdi engine from around that date maybe able to give you there part number to help. I know that there was a lot of these parts used in different models but with same engine.

It all depends on engine, power and what is fitted to car at sale.

Good luck

The engine fuse box does NOT need coding to the vehicle. It is a straight swap out - but imperative that you follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure before attempting to do so.

Edit: This was for the C5 not the C4 so has been edited - pending VIN for correct fuse box part.

Thanks Marc will get back to you when I get the Vin details. This is for my C4 not the C5 will get the vin to you to confirm the part details.
Hope the pricing is similar and the procedure is the same as for the C5.

Edit I checked the link you gave me and the part looks similar but will check tomorrow when I get a chance to get the details from the engine bay.

Ok, glad you checked - as I was of course thinking of your C5. So that part is NOT correct. You need a different fuse box, so I will edit out the previous posts to avoid future confusion.

There are several versions of fusebox for the C4 B7 depending on options - so I will need the VIN Tony.

Hi Mark the vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] and it would be great if you could send on the instructions for replacement.

Hi Tony

Ok, so the original PSA Fusebox part for this specific vehicle was 6500JN. That is no longer available new from PSA, so was replaced with another version and that has now been superseded by part no: 9807428080, £321.96 from Peugeot as of today inc. VAT. Available £214.80 from Eurocarcare.net - but again out of stock currently.

https://www.eurocarcare.net/bulbs-fuses ... e-box.html

I have put up the removal and fitting guide here in the member's resources section:

C4 (B7) / DS4 Engine Fuse Box Removal & Fitting Guide

But please be aware and as stated in the guide, that the AEE2010 vehicles (of which the C4 (B7) is, will require configuring to the vehicle via PSA servers. My original advice concerning this in the previous post above was based on the C5 on earlier electrical multiplexed architectures.

Thanks Marc for such a quick response. Not good news though! Ordering from eurocarcare is not an option unless they dispatch from the EU as the extra vat and customs duties will bring it up to the Peugeot price.

Am I correct in that it would be possible to get a secondhand one and then get a main dealer to install it and configure it? The secondhand option is at least affordable if problematic also.

Sorry for all the questions but can I just replace it and will a new fusebox and will it just work but throw up errors or is that just a non-runner? I have 6 months prior to the NCT (MOT) so have time to play around hence I could change a secondhand one and put it in and see what happens. Then go to dealer if required. We also have some confusion over here on whether the NCT centre will just ignore that warning/service light as the car is fine in that all things work as they should.

One here Tony - £219. inc Postage, UK-based.

No, these will need configuring. However, it is possible to manually configure these using Diagbox - if you have a full chip kit.

There are too many parameters to list that need configuring, but covers things like the engine variant, lighting options, relay settings, types of lights fitted, A/C compressor / clutch type, type of alternator, oil pressure acquisition info etc. etc., Fitting this unconfigured will cause multiple failures in equipment, so it's not an option to just fit it.

Thanks again for all the information Marc much appreciated. I have time on my side will talk to a main dealer and see what they are charging and if they will fit a secondhand unit. Worse case scenario I will have to go with brand new. Thanks for the link but unfortunately even though it looks cheaper Brexit means delivery to the door can end up adding over a ton to the price. Sorry this is not the place but I hate Brexit :(

Will keep this thread posted on progress. It kills me spending this money on such a small part. It seems a ridiculous rip off. If I ended up with a new clutch or timing belt/water pump etc that would be ok but this just seems a huge nothing spend.

Edit: :-D A bit of positivity! Search with the serial number came up with this. Now just have to check with main dealer on labour costs and if they will fit it.

Of course, you are in Dublin, so in your case getting one from the EU will be better I think - I saw that link earlier but posted a UK one without checking you location.

Citroen should have no issues as that is a brand new part, not a second hand unit. They should provide a fit and configure only quote. I've done this many times - last time getting a suspension strut from Poland and getting the dealer to fit it for me. Mostly, they won't fit second-hand / used parts, but should have no issues with new parts.

Thanks Marc will see how I get on. It might be awhile before I report back because if they don't play ball I will hold off until my NCT to see what happens at that.
