Laguna Oil grade

Post by doctle »

Hi Guys, I bought an 08 Laguna 1.5 DCi. It needs a service however theres a lot of conflicting information on the oil needed anything from 10w40 to 0w30 depending on the source. Can anyone shed a little light on this? A local place has an offer of Shell Helix 5w30 for €30.00 which seems reasonable

The conflicting information could be related to where the vehicle could be used, as a cold climate would need one viscosity of oil, while a hot climate would suggest a different viscosity (so a cold climate might use 0W-40, while a hot climate would need 15W-50). What you need to do is to look (in the owners handbook, if you have it) for the oil standard for you car (for example, for a Xantia HDi the recommended API was CF-EC, or the ACEA standard was B1.98.

No owners manual came with the car Irish people seem to light the fire with them. I downloaded the owners manual it says to refer to the maintenance document for oil grade and thats not available, Haynes don't do a manual on the Laguna 3 it seems. Mr Auto says 5w40 and the Renault UK forum says don't use 5w30 on these motors. I want a car that uses Duckhams 20/50

5w / 30 or 0w / 30 due to dpf filter.
