For several months my car has had a squealing/knocking noise coming from the engine bay; the problem used to be intermittent but has recently become semi-permanent. When it was intermittent I took it to a garage but they were unable to identify the source of the noise. The noise is much more likely to occur when accelerating and the engine is under load so I've recorded a video whilst driving and you can hear the sound when I accelerate. I've also recorded inside the engine bay whilst stationary; in this video, I show a part of the engine then place the microphone next to it.

Sounds like a belt pulley / tensioner from what I could see / hear.

Water pumps are quite prone to failing on this engine, the bearing collapses & can throw the belt off.
Try removing the drive belt & see if the noise goes away, while its off give the water pump a spin by hand & see if it sounds rough.
I take it there is oil in the engine?

Thanks for the suggestions. @wheeler, having listened to some more youtube videos, I agree it sounds like the water pump. I don't know how to pull the car apart to get to the drive belt so once its been to the garage again I'll let you know if it is a failing water pump bearing.
