Hi everyone,
I’m looking to fit an alarm to my dispatch, whilst taking things apart I noticed a box under the steering wheel with a load of cables going into it. It says traffic master plc on top. Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks in advance

Obsolete now and was pretty much rubbish when it worked.
I think that there are traps when removing it as in at least some Citroens the audio is piped through it, so it can interrupt any programme playing with it's inane announcements.
I think that Paul (CitroenXM) had a method of removal that fixed this but more I can't remember.

Great thanks for the reply. It’s fine being there. All I was doing was trying to fit an alarm and saw this, thought it could have been part of a factory fitted alarm and didn’t want to cause issues fitting a new one if it was

Also from what I can tell from tracing the cable this sensor/ mic goes into the box, what could it be? As it’s not the mic for the hands free?

It could be a standalone unit, I think you could buy these. I had trafficmaster built into my C5 years ago, the unit was in the boot I know this as it had to be replaced under warranty, if it was a built in one there should by a button or so that looks as if it should be there.

Thanks for that. I can’t see any buttons. All I was worried about is that the sensor could be part of a alarm already fitted. I don’t want to fit an alarm on top of one already fitted and cause issues.civvie wrote: 12 Jan 2021, 12:28 It could be a standalone unit, I think you could buy these. Its a system called smart nav (made by trafficmaster) it was a dealer fitted add on to many of the commercial range, there should ld have been a detachable basic navigation screen mounted at the base of the A pillar. The mic is part of it as you could call trafficmaster & ask them to look places up for you & plot in the directions. The system is from around 2005 so before google maps & smart phones. There would also have been a hockey puck GPS aerial on the windscreen. Even if it is still operational i can imagine anyone would keep the subscription up nowadays.
As it was an add on if I remember right it had its own external speaker so it should be removable without any issues to the original audio unlike the factory fitted trafficmaster systems.

Great thanks for that. I’m not too worried about removing it. I’m fitting an alarm and wasn’t sure if it was part of a already fitted alarm. Didn’t want to install an alarm on a van with one already partially fitted. Thanks for all the helpwheeler wrote: 12 Jan 2021, 14:12 Its a system called smart nav (made by trafficmaster) it was a dealer fitted add on to many of the commercial range, there should ld have been a detachable basic navigation screen mounted at the base of the A pillar.
