Xantia under engine cover (missing)

Hi folks, Happy New Year to all!

I know it should have one, but as most of the second (third and so on... ) hand cars some important parts are just missing .
Yesterday drove over some snowy streets, and as I got home I saw some build up of snow as far as the rubber mountings for the anti-roll bar!
I'm seeing only frontal projections of under covers for sale - not original in my view, so I was wondering if there are also some tabs, that extend towards the anti-roll bar, let's say at an original cover?
I have also another issue, that might be due to the possible accumulation of ice somewhere around the anti-roll bar, but most likely it is due to some sort of missalignment

Not all Xantias were fitted with under-trays, it depends on the engine. They were usually fitted to diesels, not petrols, partly to keep the clattery noise in and perhaps to help keep the oil warm in winter.

Ahaaa, thanks for that clarification .
So my low (70 deg C) oil temp, while in motion during cold weather, could be due to the lack of the under-tray cover, humm... makes sense.
So I'm spending the tray money on something more urgent - like new oil

I made one up for one of my Xantia. I used a roof liner from an estate car.
I made a template from a large cardboard box and cut the roof liner to shape drilled the holes, then painted it with underbody sealant and allowed it to soak into the material.
Its waterproof and stiff enough not to deform at speed.
Its always a little sticky but it works.

thanks for your idea. I was thinking to take direct measurments of the mounting points, but this with the card board seems good also.
Actually, already bought 1m x 1m, 0,5 mm hot dipped zinc steel sheet, with the intention to also make one for mine, but have to think of some kind of reinforcement, so to give it a little bit of rigidity. I have the suspicion that it will start dancing without an additional reinforcing

If you simply posted your VIN (automasked) we could tell you if it did or did not have an under engine protection cover, but you seem reluctant to do this. PM it if you feel you need to, but it does save having to ask for it over and over to answer questions.

Ofcource, you are right in this respect. But the fact is I don't have one, and if I'm not successful in making it, I can always search for one from a diesel, as xantia_v6 says.
I think there should be one, because the oil gets colder, when at speed during the winter months...

I would think you'd have to add some kind of felt material to stop the booing noise transmission from the engine.
Just my opinion but I would think the resonance from the engine on the metal of the cover would reflect the sound upwards into the engine bay and not be absorbed like a plastic or fabric cover?

Sheet metal is not the stuff, surely, for an insulating under-tray.
The diesel ones I'm familiar with are 2.5?3mm polythene-like black plastic, with 6?8mm sound-deadening foam on the top, bolted/self-tappered to available points on the front subframe and front cross-member.

The engine is quite silent, even after all that has happened to it. I hope you are not right, that the sound will go up, the reinforcing should make it not vibrate - hopefully

I'm not after sound insulation, as it is petrol, but want to stop the cold air entering from below, when at speed.
The sheet is 4 €, so worth the experiment... have to leave holes for the kitties

Agreed, not least because it needs to crumple in the event of an impact and you wouldn’t want anything that solid to interfere with that. So as long as it isn’t to rigid or inflexible.
