C4GP 1.6 VTR+ Electrical gremlins

I've had this car about 3 months, until now it's been ok. (Not as lively as my old C4GP 2.0L Exclusive).

2 days ago I noticed when switching off the ignition that the lights on my temp control panel and handbrake light stayed on -
the lights on the temp control panel 'flickered'.
Got out of the car and locked it via the fob, the lights inside stayed on.
Went thru the routine 3 more times and found that if I left the unlocked those lights stayed off.
Left it overnight, came to it this morning and nothing works, can't get in with the fob, can only open the front passenger door with the key.
No other doors will open, even with internal handles.
Battery is completely flat.
I have a battery charger to get the battery back up to par, but that doesn't sort out the underlieing problem.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? I have been told it might be a fuse box or wiring fault.
Apparently, it's a common problem with C4's between 2004 and 2007/8.

Disappointingly I have the only C4 in the UK that's had this problem,
either that or those that have fixed this issue haven't heard my call for help.

Is there anyone on this site that has any idea what might be my issue?

Has an addendum, after about 5 mins (after switching off the engine and removing the key) the headlights come on,
open the drivers door and the lights go off.

When started a driving it drives as you would expect it to. Perfect.

Has been suggested it could be a BSI (?) issue - any ideas please.

I REALLY do need some help on this one, any ideas, please...

Maybe a BSI reset might help?

If that doesn't fix it then you really need to get the error codes read.

First, apology for the long text:

Thanks Paul, I've got it booked in for Tuesday to be 'looked at' - my nephew John has a repair shop and is going to hook it up.

A very strange thing happened yesterday: Just picked up the car at John's after a Full service (all filters, oil, g/box oil, timing belt, water pump, auxiliary belt changed),

pre service: asked him to have a look to see if he could see the problem with the lights coming on after shut down,

he plugged it in and printed a list of faults which he said was leaning toward the BSI being the issue.

He said he couldn't do anything with it as he doesn't have the gear to perform that task and suggested I acquire a BSI and get it reprogrammed or reset.

So I got the car going and did some running about, driving the car was a pleasure, it does drive nicely, everything as it should be, no warning lights or anything.

I had to pick up some stuff for a job I'm doing so was stopped a shop for about 45mins, coming back to the car I see the headlights on,

fobbed it open, ignition on and tried to start but the battery was all but dead, it was very close to closing time so I told the shop people I would pick it up today.

I locked it on the fob and left it overnight on the firms carpark. My brother picked me up this morning and we went to the shop,

armed with a good long set of jump leads, I opened the door with the key, opened the bonnet - ready for jumping - put my key in the ignition to tried to release the brake

to give our kid a bit more space (I'd parked nose in to a wall) brake wouldn't release and I simple gave the key a twist

(more in hope than expectation) and it started without hesitation. It was running a sweet as you like. Got it home, parked on the drive, switched off, fob locked it,

hey presto, no lights come. Been parked about an hour - still no lights.

What in hell is going on?

Maybe a BSI reset has been done accidentally?

I'm wondering whether you have a bad earth or battery connection.

If your brother has a half-decent code reader can you post what codes he found?

I'm hoping others (Marc?) can read something out of that lot!

Did he clear the faults and then see what faults reoccurred? Is this that list or the pre-clearance list?

I can see there's something going on with the RH front sidelight. Does this flicker? It appears to be intermittent. Maybe tied in with original lamp problem?

Leave it with me - I know a lot of these are related to the car not moving at time of diagnostic, but I'll have a look as soon as I can.
