306 Brake Failure

Post by easterroad »

Hello All,
The brakes on my 94' 306 TD have suddenly failed, fortunately I was only doing roughly 15mph at the time.
The brakes were working fine until after I turned a corner into a residential street, then when I tried to stop they no longer worked!
The brake pedal is almost rock solid now and has very limited movement, if you press very hard the brakes only just grip.
The pedal has not dipped to the floor, the handbrake still works, the brake fluid resevoir is full and there are no signs of leakage.
Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong - I suspect either the master cylinder has got stuck or the servo has failed....?

It will be advisable to check the vaccuum pump for any loose hoses before changing the servo.
It is quite common for these to fail and give similar symptoms of servo failure.
These pumps are quite easy to change, remembering to change the oil ring!!
