Mk1 C5 power steering line

G'day, on my Mk1 C5 power steering line from the pump there is a sensor plumbed into the line.

I have a replacement line from a Mk2 car which doesn't have the sensor at all.

They have different part numbers but look similar apart from the switch, I'm assuming this is a pressure sensor?

Question I have is what does the sensor do and has anyone had any luck changing over power steering line without removing sub frame as it looks like this has to be done.

I was thinking about splicing in a compression fitting on the high side, anyone had luck with these on high pressure line?

I have one leak from a crimp above the drive shaft.
