ECU change Relay 2008

Hi.
What are the implications changing the ECU on a 2008 Citroen Relay 2.2hdi Puma Engine? Would it need reprogramming at Citroen, or any other related work?
Any advice is welcome, but a mechanic friend has found the probable answer to a 2 year problem, so just need to know if its easy swap?

It would just need programming with diagbox, not necessarily at a dealer. There is an initialisation procedure & you need to input all the injector codes. From memory i dont think you need the security code on this setup.

What ECU are you talking about? Engine ECU? It'll probably need virginising before pairing to the BSI with Diagbox.

Yes will depend on if you mean you want to use a second hand one. What I said above is for fitting a new (or pre virginised) one.

Yes, engine ecu, and it would be a second hand one. I will search for a virginised one, and check my local garages or main dealer can do any work. Can you explain what diagbox is, as I have to translate this to french. Where can I find the initialisation proceedure, or will this be done as part of the programming? I can get injector codes, they all come out easily, they have been out as part of the long term diagnosis.

Diagbox is the diagnostic system that Peugeot/Citroen use. I should have mentioned that you also need the Fiat adapter for it too that is needed when working on Fiat based Peugeot/Citroen models.Once it is hooked up to the car & you are in the injection ECU menu you go into the ‘pack repair’ menu where you will find several options like replacement of injectors, ECU, high pressure fuel pump etc. Select replacement of the engine ECU & the diagbox system will prompt you through it, it will ask you to input the injector codes then you just start the engine & it does its own thing. You dont need to remove the injectors to get the codes, just take a picture with a phone & zoom in is the easiest way.

I found the codes on the sides of the injectors. Are they elsewhere?
I trust that if I get the fiat adaptor all this wil be done by the programming expert?
I work on my Morris Minor and Beetle.... modern electronics is alien to me haha

It's called the S1279 Module and is for use with the VCI and Diagbox software often needed for certain commercial vehicles. Whether you need it or not depends on what diagnostic system your 'Programming Expert' is using. I would consult with them first - they should know.
