Availability of ABS unit for C5 Mark 1?

Unread post by LD »

My 2001 C5 2.2 HDI is currently with a local Citroen specialist who tells me there's a fault in the ABS unit (solenoid shorting). He's finding it difficult to source this part - says there are plenty of Mark 3 units available, but I need a Mark 1.

Is this likely to be a case of having to scrap a perfectly good car just because one part is unobtainable? It's done 120,000 miles, always been properly maintained, and a few years ago I had a new suspension pump fitted when the original failed. Thanks in advance for any insights.

Quite possible - unless you can send you original off for a repair:

You can contact BBA Reman who repair all sorts of ABS / ESP control units

Have your part number to hand if poss, or VIN handy so they can identify the unit you have. Might be you only solution and won't need coding if it can be repaired.

Many thanks for your thoughts Marc; I will forward the link to my mechanic in case he's unaware of it. This sort of thing is a terrible waste of resources - those engines will easily do 200,000 miles, so at 120,000 mine's less than two-thirds of the way through its potential life. One of my friends is a motoring writer with a particular interest in older cars, so I'll send him a link to this discussion in case he has any other ideas. Fingers crossed . . .
