X7 C5 Exclusive, what to look out for?

Unread post by Cento16v »

Evening all

I'm looking at selling the wifes 2012 308 and getting a X7 Tourer to replace it with.

The one I've seen has had most common issues fixed by the look of it I think, steering rack, new condenser, new clutch and DMF, and its at a Citroën specialist which gives me confidence.

Do they have strut top issues like Xantias?

I don't know much about ones this new I'm afraid, any help would be very much appreciated 😃

What year is it? Is it diesel or petrol? Manual or Auto?

Not that I am aware of, and as far as I can tell there have been no issues of this reported on this Forum - only the front hydraulic strut itself. The mountings themselves are quite solid.

That's good to know thanks.

Are they generally quite reliable? I don't mind fixing things, its not brand new after all, I just don't want to be stranded anywhere if it can be helped!

You seem to have covered most problems, the only fault I have had with mine so far is a leaking steering rack, although I do have a problem on one with air getting into the fuel line, but I think that's a one off, not known as a recurring fault. Hydropneumatic ones do sometimes suffer with front strut problems but mine has springs so never had that problem.

They're occasionally susceptible to strange electrical issues associated with a weak battery, so if you get anything odd happening - check / recharge / replace the battery.

I think that's something that can happen to any car - but if you are talking about the suspension system, then it is generally more reliable in the sense that it's not like the old mechanically driven suspension system seen on the pre - C5 models. The hydroelectronic interface controls a series of electrovalves and the electronic pump does not remain on constantly - it only comes on now and then to maintain the pressure in the system. As you steering control will likely be electronic - it is separate from the suspension system - it only shares the same source of LDS fluid, but is on a different circuit. Also the brakes are completely independent of the suspension - using a separate circuit unrelated to the suspension.

Any rack leaks you may get are likely to be slow in development - as it is the seals that gradually start to lose their shape once the pinion starts to rust, resulting in the fluid slowly starting to leak - so not a sudden leak.

Mechanically, mine was as sound as a pound.

Try not to get water into the window seals especially from pressure washers, as that can lead to rusty window regulator wires that can just go at any time when they get badly rusted.
