Rear light wiring ?

Unread post by Martinez »

Seems I’ve made a mistake somewhere in wiring up my rear lights. I’d kept a note and obviously I’ve missed something or got it totally wrong. So I called upon the great God Haynes to assist. I can understand the wiring diagram but not identify which wire goes where. Colour codes although provided don’t exist on most wires in any of the circuits, am I missing something ?
So the basic question is can anyone tell me the colour coding for the nearside rear light cluster ? I’ve managed to get all the lights working so far apart from the reversing light which is permanently on. Also, the air bag light is flashing on the dash, same issue ? Or the usual wiring under the seats ?

After reading the footnote in the manual, it seems Citroen don’t use colour codes, they number the wires. How useful !

Check each wire for 12v when the appropriate switch is on, then label the leads accordingly. You can find out which is the corresponding connection by applying 12v volts to each contact and seeing which bulb lights, you will need to connect a lead to earth from the outside of the bulb holders.

Sounds as though you have the reversing lights on the sidelight connection.

It's even worse than you think. They can - and bloody do - change colours along the length the wring loom. I think the only colour you can rely upon is green with a yellow stripe being earth. Black tends to be a live feed but I'm not sure that's followed 100%.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

There should always be a wiring code. Sometimes they will specify a wiring colour and other times they will use ND as a colour code - which can mean whatever they had at the time!

Checking each wire is my next move, but I was concerned about the control systems on the car. Some systems using Canbus are scary to figure out. I may end up getting in touch with NuVenture to ask how they wire it all as I’ve lost the front n/s marker light on the front of the cab. I’ve identified which wire feeds that but I’ll connect that up when I’ve sorted the rear lights. I’m also a little worried I might trigger the airbag and pretensioners so I’ll have to be careful

Well it’s been a while, but during short period of sunshine last week I decided to try and get to the bottom of the problem.
So on the passenger side there a connector behind the front seat which has multiple wires. Disconnected it from the wiring going to the rear lights and checked each wire individually. Identified tail light, brake light and indicator, but none of the others are affected by turning on ignition and selecting reverse. So did same thing on drivers side and same result.
I’m stumped ! I can only think that I’ve blown something in ecu ?
