Electrical issue

Unread post by Vanessw_fayew »

Hi, am looking to purchase a zx volcano 1.9td but it has the following issues: heater fan isn’t working, instrumental cluster light isn’t working, front indicators aren’t working an speedometer isn’t working.
Are all these linked by any chance?
Also seen another 1.9 td has a blocked heater matrix are these big issues to fix or stay clear ? Thank you

They could well be connected... I'd need to see a wiring diagram to be sure but without sight of same I'd firstly check all fuses and then look at the ignition switch as it's a frequent cause of blower issues on the Xantia due to its switching contacts going high resistance and the same may apply to a ZX...

An easy way to check:

If all fuses are sound, expose the ignition switch and if they follow normal 90s PSA pattern there is likely to be three contact sets... One that 'makes' in position 1 (auxiliary), and a second one that 'makes' in position 2 - the normal running position... The third contact set operates the starter solenoid.

Check that when the switch is in position 2 all but the starter solenoid contact set has 12V on both sides of the contact sets...

The third cause may be corrosion on joints (splices) in exposed parts of the wiring loom in the vicinity of the engine bay causing the joint to go high-resistance or open-circuit...

I'm not familiar with swapping a heater matrix in an ZX but if it's like it's sisters - Xantias especially - it will be a potential nightmare...

To be honest, I'd much rather run an electrical fault to ground than swap a heater matrix any day!
