C4 (2005) - ABS light.

Post by gordone »

I have problem with the ABS light....
Last years it had come and goes...

But the last year it comes after I have started the engine and the car has been standstill.

I have replaced all four wheel sensors without success...

Today I disconnect the cable from the ABS btake unit, sprayed some electro cleaner, but no success...

Can the next stage to be to measure the resistant the whole loop, from the ABS unit and to sensor?

Where can I find information about the pin layout on the plug on the ABS unit... many cables....

Have you driven it since changing the sensors? If you have not, try that before doing anything further. The ABS system may (as it did on my Xantia) not 'believe' a faulty sensor has been replaced until it can detect the speed the wheels are turning at.

Failing that, if the ABS 'looks' at a magnetic track in the wheel bearing it is possible that one has cracked, causing the problem. I recall (several years ago) Savoy Garage telling me about a Xsara Picasso with an ABS issue and it took them ages to nail the problem down to a crack in the magnetic track in a wheel bearing (which, once it was replaced, cleared up the problem).

The first thing you need to do is have the ABS system read for fault codes as a starting point.

I would not use a cheap reader, as they usually struggle to 'understand' Citroen and Peugeots (well, don't we all!). However, a proper Lexia/DaigBox system can pretty much do everything a dealership system can do (not everything, but a LOT more than a generic code reader). It is a shame you are not in the UK, as there are lots of Forum members with such equipment, and who are willing to help out.

Sorry, but I cannot offer an opinion (or speak/read French!).

Full export log to be found here:

Can it be that is it fault code FC43 Fault ( F4C3 ) : Brake fluid level fault (Signal not coherent or level too low)

Who causing my "brake fault" alarm and then shutoff the ABS ?

Thank you all for helping me out :)

You need to go into the ABS system menu & read the faults from there, thats the BSI faults log you have read.

Try with Diagbox rather than Lexia. Is this a diesel or a petrol?

Post up the RP number of your car (on the door post sticker), and the details, and I'll see if I can find a wiring Diagram. I found one for about your age of car which shows 3 feeds - one via Fuse 7 on the underbonnet fuse box, the two others via maxi fuse 2 and 3 (which are under the fuse box). I would check that all these are intact first. If we can find a wiring diagram, then you can check for the presence of 12V at the ECU plug - but my guess would be the pump in the ABS unit has had it.....
