Peugeot 305 gearbox oil
Hi, i want to change the gearbox oil on my peugeot 305 1.9 diesel.. there is a bottom plug, a plug in the middle and a fill plug. Im assuming that i drain from the bottom plug and fill from the top until it runs out from the middle plug right? 2 litres of oil?

Re: Peugeot 305 gearbox oil
What year is it? Some of the early / mid 80s boxes had no level plug. If it does have one it's obvious on the end cover - there's no separate fill plug, just fill it till it overflows. If it doesn't, then fill via the reversing switch with known amount of oil. 4spd might be less than 2l, can't recall, but 5spd is only 1.8l, and has an extra bit on the end!

Re: Peugeot 305 gearbox oil
It is a 1984 1.9D , it has 3 plugs as i can see, one on the back of the gearbox at the bottom, on on the side in the middle and one on the top of the gearbox in the front of it.
We tried to fill from the upper plug till it overflows, but we poured 3 plus liters and nothing came out of the fill plug

Re: Peugeot 305 gearbox oil
4-spd is 1.8L, 5-spd is 2.0L.
75W-80 GL-4 gear oil (not GL-5 or 4/5).
As Richard says, the fill-point (and the level) is the large hex head on the gearbox end casing (accessible with LH wheel removed) on most of the gearboxes... Some early ones were a bit different.
Drain point is typically on the bottom edge of the diff-casing (lowest part of the gearbox; drain plug faces towards the rear).
Just add the right amount after draining, if no level plug.
Don't overfill!
Use GL-4 for proper synchromesh action and easy changes.
