Xantia rear brakes, load sensitive?

Post by Robin »

Hi, just curiosity so far, have just done a regular check round the wheels and pads with the car on stands and the wheels hanging free.
When I tried the footbrake the wheels did not stop turning even with the engine running. Fronts worked OK.
The rears work fine once on the road because I have locked them on a gravel surface and all feels just as it always has. Positive progressive and reassuring.
Does the load sensitivity prevent the wheels on a freely hanging side from locking up altogether?

Rear brakes are fed off the rear suspension. If you jack it up without it being in high suspension the arms will drop and the HC will bleed off all the pressure from the rear suspension, and you will have no rear brakes. If you have it in high suspension there should be plenty of pressure of the brakes! If you were in high and got no brakes you have a problem there....
