Battery charge / electrical fault C5 X7 2009

Post by alfalb »

Hi

I'm new here and already read posts regarding similar problem.

I already replace the alternator and respective components, new battery, and serpentine belt and water pump.

I have reads of 12 to 14.1 but then after switch the engine off nad on again it reads 11.8 and lower.

Battery connections are all cleaned.

I've run the PSA software and no fault codes.

Would be possible some help please?!

Many thanks.

Hello,
The voltage at the battery with the engine running should be around 14.2 volts, with the engine switched off but having run a few minutes before you could expect around say 12.6 volts .

If the voltage is dropping below 12 it prompts the question how old is the battery, C5's and in fact many modern cars are very intolerant of low battery voltage, and of course when you crank the car on start it may drop I suspect to well under your 11.8

This can particularly in a C5 lead to various software problems, corruption etc so suggest you should check the battery, if you leave the lights on motor off does it go flat fairly quickly?
Will be interested to hear of progress.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

The battery is new.

I have spent the last few days around it and found out that the problem was with the battery negative cable. Removed all the connections, cleaned and put everything in the right place and it's working fine now.

The data gives 14.4V idle and around 13.8V to 14.1V driving.

It is a nice car but with a few problems that the Citroen could have sorted easily.

Once again, thank you.
