2007 1.6hdi berlingo not starting

Unread post by Stretch88 »

Hi guys first post have been browsing on and off forum has been great with the little bits and bobs I've needed so far,got a bit more serious about 2 weeks ago hasn't moved far since

Running fine then one nite it just cut out started again ran for a mile then cut out again left overnite started and got home almost...had to push it 50 yards after it cut out an wouldn't start again....same thing happened on my Saab just before xmas and it was the fuel filter so I started off there replaced the Delphi filter, took half a can of easy start and about 30 minutes priming the bulb, ran a couple laps of the town 6 or 7 miles seemed good as new,had previously disconnected the mad sensor to get the easystart in so the EML was on, parked the van up left it a few hours started again to go to the shop it started an got me home no bother....I disconnected the -ve battery terminal overnite to hopefully clear the EML reconnected next day hasn't started since, plenty oomph when cranking just no fuel getting to the injectors(cracked a couple nuts on the injector rail no obvious signs of fuel pressure priming bulb is also sounding like its never quite clear of air bubbles

Had the codes read by a mate with the torque app showed p0104 airflow and p0035 crankshaft sensor tried pretty hard to find the problem today took off the bosch fuel pressure regulator bolted to the pump no obvious signs of trouble there, gave the priming build a couple of squeezes with my finger in the hole and definitely felt fuel coming that far

Done a fair bit of reading and a dirty or clogged Crank Shaft Sensor now seems the main culprit as I noticed a couple times when starting it briefly the Rev counter wasn't working as it should neither did it seem the accelerator....can't find the crankshaft sensor?!? Thought it was back right bottom corner below the EGR valve, stripped out fuel filter EGR valve and pipes exposing the common rail, I take it that's the fuel pressure sensor at the end? Was expecting the sensor to be below that all I can see is what I thinks a gearbox sensor, Google doesn't help much it usually shows up the 1.9d not the 1.6 hdi that's in mine
Tore the main water pipe trying to get better acces it's a plastic right angled one runs from the water pump midway down the right side of the engine round under the EGR setup and then forms a t piece...the plastic pipe, didn't take much it didn't like getting tore at rite angles but it's sheared about 30mm from the union I can't seem to see a join or anywhere I can get the rest off...it branches off I take it recirculates via the reservoir eventually

Don't have a code reader or multimeter which is a bit of a hindrance but still have a few days before I need to panic MOT is due end of the week so hopefully running by then using trial and error don't wanna go throwing money at parts wildly nilly hopefully cleaning or replacing the crank shaft sensor will be enough to get it fired up...once I fix the new issue of the water pipe 😢

Sorry the posts so long just trying to give as much info as possible
