Berlingo/Partner Dual Mass Flywheel

Unread post by Harrythephot »

Hi all.
I am looking to sell my 2017 Tucson and get a 2014/16 Berlingo / Partner for the more usable rear space.

One thing I would prefer to avoid is a dual mass flywheel, though they seem not to be so much of an issue on the PSA cars from what I read.

Is there any source of information on which of the 1.6hdi engines were fitted with a DMF, as apart from a few mentions on here, there is little information around?

Also, is it worth forgoing the older Eolys models for the newer Adblue, or not an issue either way?

I am looking at the
2014/15 - 92 / 115 bhp hdi or the
2015/16 - 75 / 100 / 120 Bluehdi models.

Thank you in advance

Adblue is not a substitution for Eolys! This is a mistake a lot of people make.

These later vehicles have a DPF to trap the particulate matter, and additionally use a SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system that is positioned upstream of the particulate filter to eliminate up to 90% of the nitrogen oxides (NOx) released by diesel engines and bring NOx emissions down to levels near those of petrol engines. So Blue HDi engines will have both systems fitted, DPF additive (Eolys) needed for the DPF assisted regeneration and Adblue required for the SCR to treat the NOx. It is not one system superseding the other, but the addition of SCR to further reduce pollution.

As for the DMF issue, the best thing you can do is identify a vehicle and provide us with the REG or VIN to be able to determine if it has a single or dual flywheel, as there are too many variants of PSA 1.6 engines that could be fitted with either, depending on gearbox / engine variant etc., so it's not as clear cut as you'd think.

Cheers Mark. I didn't know that about the Eolys and Adblue.
Did a quick search on Euro car parts via registrations of likely ones from autotrader and only about 30% show clutch and flywheel results.
An older car showing dmf and a newer version showing smf....
The dmf was significantly cheaper though, so maybe I'm thinking about them all wrong.

Might I suggest you steer well clear of Euro Car Parts (known here, with good reason, as Euro Crap Parts)? They have a well deserved 'less than ideal' reputation (me being polite).

I'll take that on board. Cheers.
It was really to see if there was a reliable way of finding out which variant had which flywheel, though I'm likely just making the usual mountain / mole hill thing.
I have in the past used carparts4less, which I'm certain is the same company, but wherever possible go for Bosch, Brembo, or other "proper" brands.

I have a perfectly reliable Tucson, but I'm quite taken with the usability of the Berlingo, plus it's reputation as a reliable workhorse.
I'm just overly worried that I'm;
A. Unbelievably stupid selling the Tucson, or
B. Going to get rid of a perfectly good car and change it for an unknown liability.

Cheers for the help. It all helps to steer me towards the possibility of maybe making a decision. Or not.
