Hi all,
My V6SEI S1 has been sat around outdoors since last Nov and when I looked at it recently it would not move as the brakes were stuck on. In the past with my old Rover P6s' I have just put the cars in forward then reverse and 'cracked' them off. Can anyone suggest a proper method for freeing them up since I don't want to mess the brakes up and I believe there may be more severe repurcussions from adopting this technique with an XM[8)]

Unless your XM has a manual box, I wouldn't try the P6 method. Your best bet would be to remove the wheels and free the brakes off with the use of a copper hammer or similar (you probably only need to do the front brakes). If you tap round the disc it sould free off, also use some emery paper to remove the rust on the disc.
The alternitively your could go though the motions of replacing the brake pads, which would definitely free the brakes.
Finally if you leave the car standing for long periods don't use the hand brake (sorry parking brake in your case).
