Xantia 1 TD cranks, but won´t start

Unread post by Invis »

Hello,

I have got Xantia 1.9 TD, 1997. When I turn key into second position, there are no warning lights on instrument panel except warning charge (battery) light. So preheating doesn´t work and motor only cranks, but won´t start. Battery is fine. I connected two cables in grey connector leading to ignition switch and it worked. For one day. I performed few starts: sometimes warning lights lighted up normally, sometimes first they lighted up dimmed, blinked few times and then they brightened up. But now it doesn´t work again.
Do you have any ideas, please?

Hi, and welcome.
If you can post your VIN, we can post the wiring diagram for the engine/instrument electrics and fusing, which should help.

Hello, thank you for Your reply.
Are there more types of wiring diagrams for Xantia 1.9TD 1997?
I am sorry I don't want to share VIN.
Shouldn't be sufficient car info like: saloon shape, left hand drive, turbodiesel XUD9TE, manual transmission BVM5, without abs?
By the way, do you have access to SEDRE?

The VIN will be automatically obscured so only Forum staff can read it, and will help them to get the correct information for YOUR vehicle. Remember, they were made in various factories, and there could be differences in the equipment depending on what was available from the suppliers at the time (so, for example, a Xantia from one factory might have Bosch injector equipment while a similarly specced Xantia from a different factory could have Lucas equipment).

The RP (ORGA) number will also be sufficient to identify the diagrams needed...

Is it complicated to look up those diagrams?

Once you understand the concept and philosophy they are very easy and straightforward.

You get three diagrams. A schematic or theoretical circuit diagram, a harness diagram showing the physical wiring loom interconnects between each component and a location diagram showing exactly where on the car each component and loom is located.

Each loom and component is numbered and these numbers can be cross-referenced to a master table that translates the number into a description of the component...

We'll help you follow it ;)

Thank you for information. But I meant that I still don't see any diagrams.

Sounds like problem with the contacts in the ignition key. Is it facelift Xantia? If it is - the problem with burning contacts should be fixed...

You can check it, it's not that complicated. Just need to remove some covers...
There is a small pin, holding the ignition key body to the steering column. The only way to remove it is by the key - one of the positions make the pin go down. "Ignition" I think, but not sure...

Once you remove it - you will see the plastic body with all contacts and wires. Be careful when unhook it because the plastic is old and fragile...

If you are not familiar with such stuff - better call a professional :)
