CX Prestige Turbo 2

Unread post by szhrr5c »

Hello All,
IMG_20200814_125303115.jpg
Looking for some general advice on my car; this is a LHD 1987 model which I have just retrieved from a garage in Brussels where I used to work. I drove it back home from there to Gloucestershire and am working on some issues and planning some bodywork including paint. A bit of a shopping list of questions below!

1, I assume this is the same engine as a Gti Turbo 2?

2, Anybody know of a UK source for a radiator fan switch of the right type?

3, I am changing the oil, filter and coolant and going to check the spark plugs - there should be Champion L82C which are still available should I need/decide to replace them. Are these the best option?

4, The central locking works on all but one of the passenger doors so I'm thinking of removing the door card and checking the wiring on the motor - best place to start? Anyone had any experience with this?

5, Similarly both door mirrors only function in one direction so I'm planning to take these off to investigate farther.

6, Lastly the black bumpers are knackered (see photos) - I understand that they cannot simply be painted to bring them back to good condition, any comments on that please? I've thought of having them restored to body colour if thats feasible but not sure on that.

Thanks

Mister Auto UK (PSA owned) list one (Valeo 819770) for CX GTi Turbo2 156/166bhp.
Assume that is your car.
Check the tech details listed.

The CX literature in the new Resources section of the forum might be useful.
Go to Board index > Resources > Mechanics' booklets.

For CX, there are now some workshop pages there, as well as a parts listing.
Several of the Mechanics' booklets now include CX data/repair.

Getting a body colour match for the bumpers will be quite difficult especially with those gold metallic paints.

There is/were some paints specifically for matt/silk/satin/gloss plastic body parts. The name Plastikote/Plasticote rings a bell.
BX bumpers were successfully painted, although originally a self-colour. Black should be straightforward.
