CiTROEN X7 Faulty RT6 Unit

Post by ds21h »

Hello, I need some help please with a faulty RT6 in a Citroen X7 from 2103.

It has the built in screen with the reversing camera etc.

Everything was working fine, radio, rear camera, outside temp etc except it was asking for a postcode upate.

I purchashed an update and the update startsedto install then froze and the CD would not eject.

I now have a blank screen, no radio, reversing camera etc.

Pulling the fuse out and leaving for 30 mins makes no difference.

If I re-start the car it will go through the initial set up starting with CRC media check but freezes on Upgrade Preparation.

Could anyone give me some advice on how to rectify the fault please.

Many thanks

I've moved this to the RT6 section of the Forum.

Are you 100% sure you have bought the right update for your system and secondly where did you buy the update from? What is the firmware part number or version?

Ok, you have the right firmware for the RT6. However, if it has been interrupted during a previous firmware update you may find it is now stuck.

These can take a while to update from CD as opposed to a USB update. The car must be kept with the engine running during the update and no phones must be paired before you do it, as a phone call can interrupt the upgrade and if the car goes into economy mode that too can corrupt the installation. A bit late to tell you this now after the vent, but important you know this in case you can get it working for next time.

Secondly, this is a MAJOR update and if and when you can get it installed, it will 95% default your RT6 unit to factory settings, so will need a dealer to resolve most likely. The update locks the unit so it can't be configured using Diagbox either. A dealer needs to download the update via their secure servers and they can then configure it for you at the same time according to options fitted on your car from your VIN.

There is also a bluetooth calibration file that needs to be applied that resolves the Bluetooth echo experienced after this upgrade.

So all you can do is leave the CD in and then disconnect the car battery using the (BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure). Make sure you leave the battery disconnected for 10 minutes and then follow the reconnection procedure. Then start the car at the relevant part and see if it will start loading. Be patient though - it may take some time.

If you cannot get it to load or it keeps rebooting - make sure the CD has zero scratches or finger prints. If the lens on the reader in the car is dirty, it will make for a difficult time reading the data in.

Hi Marc thanks for the reply, the update was running for 90 mins with no phones or anything else connected and the car was running but did not driving.

I will try the BSI reset and they dealership time if it does not work.

Many thanks

Report from Citroen says the SD is burnt out and needs replacing, or a new unit.

640 euro for the repair or 1260 euro for a new unit.

Found a company on ebay.fr who replaced the SD card, guaranteed for 2 years so all fixed now, 95 euro including postage and returned within 2 days.
