Diesel leak at back of car

Unread post by Med_tech3 »

I have a peugeot 207 11 reg. This evening after parking my car I went to the boot and noticed diesel splashed up the back of the car. I looked underneath and saw diesel on the tank and slightly forward of the tank towards the front of the car. It was dripping. I had just driven 20miles from work and did not notice any change in performance. There were no error messages either. I did fill the tank this morning to the full mark but the nozzle didn't click so I don't think I overfilled it. I didn't notice any diesel on the car when I first got in it to travel home.
Any ideas of where the leak could be coming from?
Thanks
Simon

not familiar with that model, but my suspicion would be that its similar to what happened with my 405....

In my case, the Pipework from the Tank runs from the top of the tank, down the front between the Bodyshell and the Tank, and then along the inside of the sill. Mine had chaffed between the front of the Tank & the back of the Bodyshell

...and even though at first I didn't have a drip at all (which made the issue a bit of a pig to find); air was getting into the system via said chaff and causing poor running & starting.

I replaced the relevant section of pipe & its been fine since (about 4 years ago).

Spilt diesel can be slippery, specially for those on two wheels, so best attended to as prompt as you can

Thank you. I cleaned up the diesel and drove the car again. It seems to be coming from the top of the tank so I will check out the pipes.

Have a look at this thread. Different car but it does sound familiar.

Very useful info on that thread. The leak is either from the pipe connector or the large o ring. I cleaned the area and there is now a puddle of diesel around the o ring and a bit under the pipe. Would the o ring leak if the tank wasn't full?

It won't if the car isn't moving but driving along will cause fluid to splash around and if there's any pressure inside the tank then this could force the diesel out. Obviously the less full it is the less likely it will be that it'll leak.

Thanks. That makes sense. It is about 3/4 full at the moment. I'll get a new gasket and a new fuel pipe. Does anyone have the part numbers or diagrams for the parts? My car is a 207 11 reg 1.4hdi
Thanks

Is there a tool required to remove the locking ring?
