Citroen Jumper rough pedal and check engine light

Unread post by techjam »

hi

what could be the issue when the engine just becomes really rough right after pressing the gas pedal and check engine light comes on at the same time with random intervals while pressing/releasing the pedal?
it's a 2004 model with a 2.8 hdi diesel engine (94kw)

it basically had a timing belt replacement before the problem occured, but it worked totally fine when driving out from the garage back to home etc.. altho i have to re-check when did it actually occur (might have been at higher speeds)

there were also some codes stored in the memory, but only p0335(revolution sensor?) kept coming back and only when the pedal was pressed - it did not appear at all while just idling and it idles totally fine without any hickups or stuttering at all...

and would there be some more codes after driving a bit faster/more or would they also appear after some small parking space maneuvers too?
(air and fuel filters were already replaced)

well, the timing part is even more weird... first it says to turn the engine in its normal direction of rotation, then lock it with a wrench and remove some covers and pulleys to check the markers alignments, but it doesnt specify how much or where i have to turn it and can i turn it after removing the covers to make the markers align with the permanent markers on the non-moving parts of the engine?

Hi, pop your VIN up, so I can see exactly which engine you have.

That doesn't tell me anything unfortunately. Your VIN is automatically masked from public view by our software when you submit it - so only staff can see it if that's your concern.

Ok, so I have received your PM:

You have a RELAY II PANELLED VAN - LONG HIGH SIDE STD ROOF TYPE 18 2.8 HDI (SOFIM) Manual gearbox 5

This has the SOFIM engine in (Società Franco-Italiana di Motori), now owned by Fiat. There are three variations of this 2.8 engine, so that was why it was important to know the correct one.

Check back in a few minutes and I'll put what little I have on the timing procedure up for you so you can check against what you did.

ok thanks, but does the tool slide into some deeper groove in the flywheel or how much do you have to turn it?
and wonder what things does that accessory pulley run?:o

Same with the info I have - very few fuses and very limited info I'm afraid.

i will probably do a compression test also for it, but would it be any different for a Hdi engine?
and how different is a diesel leakdown test from a regular petrol engine? if the valves are closed on tdc, then it should work quite fine?

is the Tdc of the first cylinder where the sprocket markings align with the head cover and the other lower ones or where is it, and the rest of them are like 90 degrees away from eachother then?
or where does it explain how can i find the position for each cylinder...

how important could this part be?
"re-initialize the engine ECU after every:"
fault clearing
battery disconnection
etc etc...

and what the heck is the re-initialization in the first place lol

BSI reset, search the forum, it has been posted many times. The procedure allows everything to go to sleep and wake up correctly. Similar to turning your 'puter off correctly as opposed to to simply unplugging it.

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone
