Xantia Battery Drain

Unread post by jeffjohn »

My Xantia 1.9 turbo diesel estate is suffering continuous flat batteries, even a new one. The cause appears to be a continuous discharge of 1 Amp. Pulling the fuses one by one, I eventually found fuse 15 was passing the Amps. This supplies the Courtesy lights with dimming control and boot light. (Also seat heaters if fitted). Problem solved by removing fuse permanently but I am not happy having a fault on board. Bulbs work ok so I guess it is the dimmer controller. Firstly WHERE IS IT??
Second, is this a 'known' problem and if so, what is the solution, please.
Many thanks jeff amicalement (in France 44290)

Check that the courtesy light in the boot is going off. It is easy not to notice with the blind pulled and as it doesn't have an isolation switch you are reliant on the trip on the back hatch. I left my boot up for some hours one afternoon and the battery struggled a bit to start the car! Since then I have replaced it with a courtesy light from one of my old Mazdas (with a switch) and cut another hole for a second. Now I can switch them off it is a luxury.
The dimmer switch is under the steering column on the RHS (nearish the bonnet release).

That would be the dashboard panel light rheostat wouldn't it?
The courtesy lights fade out after a while on their own. I think it is the box of tricks which controls this feature which cannot be located.

i think the courtesy light timer/dimmer is located under the centre console behind the handbrake.
