C5 VTR+NAV, gives security and location msg on phone, How?

Post by belaprops »

My C5 VTR+ NAV 2011 has been found sending a message to a smart phone, giving it's location and possible intrusion. It was a cat in the end but How ?

Has anyone got an idea how this is done. It happened with my friend who borrowed the car and had Bluetooth connected and while at home he got this message on his phone from the car.

Is this a hidden feature

All your suggestion are very welcome.

You have the MyWay system fitted. This is a Bluetooth only phone so can't send or read text messages (there's no interface to do this in the MyWay).

I can only get text messages on my Navidrive 3D system (which is different to yours), by using the car's internal telephone & SIM Card instead of the Bluetooth connection to my iPhone.

As you don't have emergency equipment fitted, I can't see where that has come from, as there's no Services module fitted to your vehicle and no hands free kit either.

Do you have the SOS or Citroen Emergency buttons fitted next to the head unit?

Not sure what the head unit is.. still leaning.
But my friend apparently got the car located on Google maps and that it was "attacked " , which was a cat jumping on the car.
Very strange.

The Head Unit is another name for the MyWay unit fitted to your car. Often called Head units when not differentiating between specific models as they are all integrated into the vehicles systems / have some configuration control.

Your car has nothing to do with Google maps at all nor will the MyWay system, as PSA vehicles with the RT*, MyWay and Navidrive 3D telematics systems all use maps from 'Here' (formerly Navteq), so I suspect it is more likely to be a software application installed on the phone itself as the vehicle is incapable of making a bluetooth call without a phone being paired, and in range.
