Voice control of telephone

Post by Steveo »

Hi all
I am getting the diagbox out later today to try and complete some work started earlier this year.
Can anyone tell me if the voice recognition works for the Bluetooth phone or just for navigation.
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve. Not with the system you have recently installed (MyWay). Only the Navidrive 3D system that was installed on the X7 as a factory option has voice commands.

However, speaking from an Apple perspective, if you have an iPhone with Siri, and the iPhone is paired to the MyWay via Bluetooth, there may be a possibility.

You need to make sure that the iPhone is also plugged into a charging port. So just as if you were at home with your iPhone connected to power, saying "Hey Siri, call the missus" for example, should activate Siri to initiate a voice call for the appropriate contacts in your iPhone. As the iPhone is connected to Bluetooth, the call should be handled via the car's speakers.

A few caveats - and I can't say I've tried this as I have the 3D Navidrive system with both Bluetooth and it's own internal phone, so can't tell you if it works - but this work around would also require a WiFi connection for Siri to work, and secondly, you would have to see whether the call is passed over to the vehicle's controls for ending the call / volume etc.

I can't speak for Android devices, but I suspect it would be similar.

Cheers Marc
Unfortunately I'm unable to load diagbox as my darling wife decided to lend my laptop to a friend and I think she has tried to get on the Internet grrrr
. I've just taken the door card off and I have no wires/connector for door lights so I'm not having a good day

That's a shame - normally if there is a different harness it would be marked as such so maybe the PSA cost-cutting measures kicked in before they had time to update the database!
